The four-year protest against the Bush administration begins NOW. If you care, you will help.
You're probably all scared now. You're scared because you're individual, and what individuals fear more than anything is homogenous tyranny. Repression. After all that many of us have struggled to achieve to allow us to be true to ourselves, you're faced with a New World Order that wants to annihilate your rights to be those things, to speak out about those things, who wants to make you less than a person for being those things. Whether you're gay, bi, trans, queer, furry, Otherkin, plural, BDSM, kinky, zoophile, [insert anything here]-phile, straight but not narrow, straight but having sex outside of marriage, asexual, you've ever needed or thought you might need an abortion, or you're supportive of any of the above, THIS AFFECTS YOU. This threatens your very way of living, even if in ways that aren't obvious. No, they're not going to hunt you down for being 'kin. But the Bush administration is about, and for, rich white American fundamentalist Christian heterosexuals; the majority of the people who voted for it. These are the people who decide what's good and what's evil. What's holy and what's sinful. What's worthy of being in the bookstores. What's worthy of funding in the school and college societies. What's worthy of being portrayed on TV, and how it's portrayed. What's worthy of arrest.
You don't have to have a kink. If your mind tends to flippant, humourous death threats when you rant, you're affected. If you're a writer, you're affected. If you're anything other than a rich white American fundamentalist Christian heterosexual YOU ARE AFFECTED. And you're probably scared.
You have a right to be scared. But fear is what tyrants feed on. Fear on its own is a tame, futile emotion, reducing us to cowardice. Seize your fear and thrust it out into the daylight screaming for its blinded eyes, make it run, run like a rabbit. Set your fear alight. Back your fear with anger, not senseless, irrational anger but righteous indignation, and light it ablaze with rainbow flames.
Now, more than any other time, our diversity must be our weapon. Now, more than ever, is NOT the time to hide, NOT the time to shrink back from self-expression, NOT the time to start locking our LJ posts and taking our art shrines and our writings down off the web. Now is the time to shine, and show the world that what we are is not some hideous monstrosity, but a brilliant, bedazzling dragon of potential and harmonious dissonance, resonating in all the colours of the spectrum.
Write, draw, compose, create masterpieces that reflect your glittering soul. Make love, with yourself, with another, with many others, in public, in leather, in fluorescent body paint, in the ocean. Question, comment, share, create community so that others may build. Ask what hasn't been provided for, what hasn't been done for the world, who's hiding, who's in fear, and give them that space to shine. Dress up, dress down, party in the streets, party in the schools, sing, dance, chant, show them you're alive and you care about this world. Infiltrate the secret heart of the city. Plagiarise, cannibalise, take the acts of others and use them as fuel for your own acts of rebellion. Leave around mix CDs with music you love. Drown out the hatred with delirious joy. Do a class project on alternative lifestyles. Skirt the law, live on the edge, believe, breath, dream, be, push your limits, push your mind, push your soul. Try something new. Don't be afraid. Be who you are, but be it a thousand times brighter. Tell a friend. Tell the world. Come out... and play.
Most of all, PROTEST. Scream it from the rooftops. Flypost. Make banners, make posters, leave messages on computer screens, marker pen in the bathroom stalls - take one out with you tomorrow - fake blood-spattered dolls abandoned on garbage tips mourning the death of the individual. Wear all black. Wear a t-shirt with a message. Wear the message on your body - paint, tattoo, Miss Universe-style sash.
And a private message to my fellow 'kin now. STOP SAYING THE WORLD WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND. They will never understand if YOU DON'T GIVE THEM A CHANCE. Now is the time to let the world know your presence. Now is the time to let them know you're fighting for them, for us, for our freedom. FIGHT, Goddess love you, if you're all so tooth and claw and fiery vengeance. Here's your cue. Go wreak havoc in the name of good.
Here's a couple of protest posters to start you off, A4 size: 1 | 2
And keep loving. Goddess, keep loving. The things you love, the people you love, will see you through.

We will NOT concede.
We will NOT be silent.
We will NOT run away.
No one can stop this chain of events...
...For it has already begun.
We will NOT be silent.

That's not to say that your own way isn't wonderful. Just that despite my growth over the last few years I'm probably too shy to do it in the way that you suggest. And to protest, I have to feel directly threatened. Being so far outside America, I don't, not yet. I feel the world is threatened, however, so that should be enough.
The posters though, I want to print out and put up. I'm not sure it's applicable to where I live though... apart from the fact that I don't like in America, Tasmania is rather small, and even those who took it seriously probably wouldn't be able to do anything to protest against Bush - Howard, maybe. You can bet I'll be involving myself in Australian politics, which may evolve from there. Perhaps I'll watch our own ill-appointed politician for a while and wait for my moment to strike with my own protest.
Why do I feel like I'm making excuses? Regardless of all that, this is the train of thought the world needs.
Keep fighting.
I'm actually putting up posters against Bush, anyway. Even though I'm not in America, we can still protest.
This morning I had written some stuff about not giving in to tyranny and keeping the lights of freedom burning, but it sounded so hollow and sad I deleted it again. You said it much better.
And while I'm not in the US, I am worried, because I fear the madness may be contagious. The US do not have a monopoly on mindless voters, unfortunately.

And, I might even go down to the christian college next door and put them there, too. I'll talk with someone I know who's a member of their security team to see if I can work something out.
(oh, and...link! :p)
You don't live in the United States, so don't act like your rights are being trampled on. Why are you outraged? And why now? Don't you realize this has been going on for four very long years now?
And people in other countries have a hella business being outraged, because of the US's tendency to export en masse all our idiot policies, often under threats of trade restrictions or similar punitive measures, plus we're the runaway military superpower, armed with tons of nukes, and developing, under Bush, a nasty habit of carpet-bombing anyone we don't like and can rationalize picking on, dragging any and all the friends we can bully into complicity along for the ride. Sprite's English---an Englishman got his head hacked off not long ago in Iraq.
This blue jewel hurtles through space, and we're all on it together...
I'm so with you. I'll be sharing this message and the posters with people all over my campus when I remind them that if everyone on in our age group had voted the election would have gone a very different direction.
I'm also copying to my LJ and crediting you.
"Courage is being afraid, and yet going forward anyway."
The light is not going to die. I won't let it. And even if it does, you can't make me not believe that it won't come back.
I am a Dream Chaser. I've always been on the outside, both by choice and by circumstance... and one of the beliefs I have as a Dream Chaser is that I don't need a home, because the world I'm in, whatever it is, is my home. And while it's tempting, *very* tempting to get an operation to become a fully-functional futanari and then flee to another "room" of my home, I can't just abandon one "room" because I don't like the way it's turning out to be.
I'm going to walk, I'm going to take a stand, I'm going to go on being the nutty but soft-hearted soul I've always been... I'm going to do what I must. They can try to kill me, they can try and kill the Dream Chaser that I am.... they've tried before and failed, and no matter how many times I fall, I refuse to stay down permanently.
If someone can hook me up with some costume white tiger ears and a fair-length tail, I can take it from there.
Lyrics for Sarah McLachlan's "World On Fire"
As we all make our way through these next four years, let's keep reminding ourselves that at the very least, Bush and Cheney can't come back... So let's try and think of some candidates for 2008, and be as serious (or non-serious) as you want to be:
1. Kenshin/Vash (you can't beat their slogan: "The world is made of LOVE AND-A PEACE!!")
2. Mireille/Kirika ("Oval Office" will take on a whole new meaning...)
3. Kenshin/Sano (they'll get that yaoi demographic out into the world, at least)
4. Jane Maxwell/McDullen (why? why the fuck not?)
And...
5. Kefka/The Joker (hey, if we're gonna let a pair of mad clowns run the country, let's not be half-assed about it.)
In the meantime, despite the fact that the States is headed for an even further drop, let's also not forget that there are some genuinely nice people here, and that everybody who's getting screwed will all be in this together. I'll be out there, somewhere, singing my little heart out, putting up flyers, and basically "shining the light 'cause I want it seen," as Seal once said....
Here's another good song those singers out there to belt out: Jamiroquai, "When You Gonna Learn?"
Mostly, tho'... I'll be singing this, once I get it completely memorized:
Lyrics for Leonard Cohen's "Democracy"
Don't give up. Be afraid, but know that you're not alone. Live. Hope. Believe. And carry peace within your hearts.
The light isn't dead.
"Spirit. It cannot be broken, and it cannot be taken away. This I must believe." -Drizzt Do'Urden
::fades into the shadows, singing "Heart of Sword ~Before Dawn~"::
Love ya! XD
I can't put up those posters on campus, as if I am seen at all, it's like a 50 dollar fine for not going through the administration to do it, but fuck it, I'll go downtown and slap 'em all over the bus stops ;)

The gay men scared them more.
This post will be linked in my next entry, btw.
And the quote is very true, sadly.... in the midst of all of that, what half of America ultimately chose to do was to support hate, rather than hope.
Linking this post! And also friending you, if that's okay ^^
Thanks for saying what I was trying to find words for.
FULLY PREPARED TO START MY FBI FILE - Go Patriot Act!
This is the thing - I will never support this president. I refuse. Bush wants the support of all those who voted against him? Did Clinton get that?
Now is not the time to support this president that the rest of the world rightfully opposes. The republicans never united to support Clinton. If the democratic party is to survive, we need to not support this man. We need to rebel against everything he does. We need to disagree with his Supreme Court appointments. We need to not pass his legislation. We need to not give him power to go to war.
Now is the time to fight. If we are a minority then let us be the loudest minority that ever was. Make them hear that we will not have our rights eroded. We will not send our sons to die!
The problem is, unlike the republicans, the democrats are too patriotic to do that. We say 'support our leader whoever it is' because we don't want to appear weak in the eyes of the world, we want there to be unity for the sake of our country - but in the process our country is dying. Now is the time to fight or the dream of America that we've been building for 40 years or more is gone.
4 years ago George Bush lied to us when he said he was a uniter not a divider. So, let us be divided. Let us fight. Let us not give up.
All I have is faith. What I believe in most is this country. & I have to believe & I do believe that this is not the end of the dream I have for this country. But let us speak out. Let us be heard. Let us not lay down. Let us keep our fervor.
I believe in the dream of America. I believe that the republican party & George Bush are contrary to what America is all about. I believe that not today, & maybe not in ten years, but one day we will achieve the dream of America that was postponed today. & I ask that any of you who believe in that dream keep believing & keep talking, keep fighting.
They may take the body of America today but they will not get its soul.
One day our children will live in the America I dream of. Just don't give up.
