luinied just made my day, awesome-link-style.

Awwwww awwww awwwwwww did I mention SQUEE did I mention ANIME STYLE FF6 did I mention win and awesome and win and yay and also I am up far too late?

Seriously, I would have cried over these as a kid. And even at the grand old age of 24 (wait, I did just have a birthday, didn't I? I completely spaced it. Whee. Yep, I'm 24 now, apparently. That is somehow not as strange to me as it being 2008. We are now officially into sci-fi years! Not that I know why '08 is more sci-fi than '07, but somehow it just... feels that way), they have the power to make me go OMG OMG SQUEE OMG YAY, as you can see from the above. The animation might not be the best evar, but you have no idea how much I longed for something like this when I was young. asfdhgsafdgsdhf.

Also, thank you to everyone who's been chatting with me tonight. You guys are the bestest. <3

Hehe, glad I could make your day. (2005 was the scifi year for me, as that's where Transformers flashed forward to. We were really supposed to have a base on Mars by now.)
Mar. 2nd, 2008 06:52 am (UTC)
I agree about being supposed to have a base on Mars, even though I don't know Transformers. We were supposed to be exploring and colonising other planets, dammit. XD

On the other hand, the sci-fi shows never predicted how big the internet would be, or how much of an impact it would have on people's lives, or things like collectively edited, searchable, massively sprawling online encyclopedias. So some of the cool predicted things haven't happened yet, but some interesting non-predicted ones have! And I'm sure we'll get to the planets someday. ^^

It did predict way more totally immersive 3D virtual reality that would require funny suits or at least goggles, and a lot of that superficially resembles the Internet. Except with less Wikipedia and Googlestalking and more surreal action sequences and horribly unsafe biofeedback mechanisms.
Mar. 2nd, 2008 07:49 pm (UTC)
The horribly unsafe biofeedback mechanisms are happening, anyway, slowly. They've started developing games that you can control with thoughts via electrodes attached to your head. The control system is just really primitive right now, but one assumes it'll improve.

At least improvements probably won't involve systems that kill you / put you into a coma in the event of avatar destruction / software error / hacking. Just like how our computers, finicky as they may be, don't tend to physically explode when they encounter problems.

Just like how our computers, finicky as they may be, don't tend to physically explode when they encounter problems.

See, but they do. My friend lunamanar has this story about a bad capacitor and a computer repair class full of people ducking for cover... Also, my dad's exploded spontaneously for unknown reasons, though I gather that one was far less dramatic. Also, they physically melt on the outside. Which was pretty dramatic both times I saw it happen. Also, I figure if I hang around Justin long enough I will see more explosions and big dramatic melting scenes, so that part of sci-fi is pretty real to me. XD

wow, you're up nearly as late as me. XD

(also, totally didn't know you were 24. thought you were a lot younger (our age), for some reason. huh.)
Mar. 2nd, 2008 03:34 pm (UTC)
Nope! Only just 24, and I completely spaced the idea of actually celebrating or noting this in any way, so it seems kind of odd to notice it now.

For a long time we thought you guys were older than you were. It's weird, 'cause we seem to know a lot of people who are all at about the same level of maturity mentally and all look the same age because the older ones just look young, but are actually really different ages. :3 Like the Senzas... they just look much younger than they are, and stuff. And my head sort of mishmashes it out to an average of "oh, everyone's the same age as me".

Wow, the second Youtube vid, that's FF6 in Full Metal Alchemist style. O_O;;

I've always thought the Final Fantasy series would be wonderful as anime, like Chrono Trigger or Dragon Quest.

Also, I was up until about 4AM, except that I was too busy playing Guild Wars, else I would've gone on AIM too. Ahh, bummer...

Happy Birthday! :)

Eee, those are so neat!
Mar. 2nd, 2008 05:37 pm (UTC)
Thank you! Though do not use this post as a way to calibrate when it actually was; it was, er, on the 17th and I forgot UNTIL NOW. XD (Happy belated birthday to you, too!)

Aren't they just? I swear, I just exploded. From. Squee. It's like all my childhood hopes and dreams condensed into two minutes and uploaded to YouTube.
Mar. 2nd, 2008 05:40 pm (UTC)
Aww, I had no idea. We could have celebrated for you, too.

^____^ It is!
Mar. 2nd, 2008 05:53 pm (UTC)
Hee, quite all right, I had no idea either. XD XD I swear this must be something like the third year in a row I've paid little or no attention to when my birthday actually is. It just never seems to impact me as a big deal; the little things that make life exciting every day are more what I focus on.
Mar. 2nd, 2008 05:59 pm (UTC)
(Oh, and randomly, this is also technically clever and hilarious and kind of oddly heartwarming in some parts. Kefka dancing with pompoms alongside the whole cast is somehow kind of awesome...)
Mar. 2nd, 2008 07:04 pm (UTC)
Ahahaha! That's the Lucky Star anime intro song. ZOMG.

I wonder how they managed to do all those sprites though.
Mar. 3rd, 2008 11:08 am (UTC)
I may or may not have screamed.

24? Wait, you has an age? I'm not sure I've ever thought of you in that context before.

Plus, it can't be 2008. That's the near-future, the one they talk about in tech magazines.

Happy much belated birthday too.
Mar. 3rd, 2008 03:15 pm (UTC)
I has a flavor too!
They do that to you! I may or may not have gone "omg omg flail" and bounced in my seat.

And, hey, if you want to keep thinking of me as ageless, go right ahead. I certainly prefer the "nebulous person-construct with no real definable traits" thing.

...You mean this, don't you. Yes. So much yes. I didn't have the internets at the time these were going around; I saw them in a magazine, and at the time I think everybody was putting it forward as a possible remake/sequel with same characters. I was so, so heartbroken when FF7 came out and LOCKE AND TERRA AND CELES WEREN'T IN IT WTF. ;_;

But yes, that and these videos so tap into the same nostalgia for me, because around the time I saw those CG demos was the time in my life when those videos would have made my entire year. As it is, they still come pretty close.

...and lol, and also ouch, at icon. Also, no worries! The entire point of this post was to DISTRACT PEOPLE WITH PRETTIES. :D Also, it so wasn't clear in the original post because I was lame at wording, but that was just a sort of "holy crap I'm 24! I'd forgotten about that!" moment; it was old news even when I wrote the post, given my birthday was on the 17th and *I* forgot. XD Thank you, though! (And, ugh, sorry about comment-edit-spam, I'm being lame tonight.)

I'm wondering how I managed to miss this post. And on top of that, how I managed to miss sharing this with you.

I'm still waiting for someone to do a version of SZS's second OP, but hey, this is pretty sweet nonetheless.
