Cheesy meme, and a lot of props to kaijima for inspiration, but....

I Aspire to Dragonflight.

I believe that the timeless dream of being swept in to the sky by beings of legend is not, and should not be, merely an infantile, petty daydream held by those who cannot "face the real world", but a potential reality.

I believe in abstracts. I also believe that many abstracts can be concrete.

I believe in wishes and hopes. I also believe that idle wishes and distant hopes are not the only tools we have.

I believe that we all want to make a bizarre and glitterfilled world reality, to see wonder and unconventional beauty on every street corner, to be fascinated by the rainbow of humanity that would result if we could all be what we dream. I believe that dream should not be dismissed.

I believe that by hook or by crook, by technology, magic, both, or simply the everyday resources granted to us in the here and now, we can all be what we dream, whether that dream is silver hair, silver flesh or silver wings. I believe that is not a foolish thing, nor an escape, but an envisioning, a reshaping and a becoming. I believe that no one who has ever worn a tattoo - temporary or permanent -, painted their body, had piercings, coloured their hair in an unusual or even ordinary shade, or marked their uniqueness in any other bodily way can dismiss our dreams for a more colourful world, one where race, nationality and gender are blurred in a magnificent kaliedoscope of deviant and delicious hue, one where the outside reflects the in as much as is humanly possible.

I believe that even if we can't do it - and we can - it does not devalue our spirituality, our integrity or our nature that we try.

And I believe that one day, those who would have denied us our dream will watch on, when we are dragonriders - and, dragons willing, maybe even relax their pride enough to ride along with us, for this should be a revolution for all who want it.

If you, whether identifying as human or otherwise, believe that the limits of humanity are only those which we have arbitrarily defined; that transhumanism, the transformation of the human form beyond the default granted to us, is not only a viable worldview but that those who decry it for being against Nature or Deity ignore the fact that the tools to make it possible have been granted to us by the very same; if you just happen to think, for whatever reason, that the world would be a damn finer place for the physical presence of lilac-furred fruitbat cashiers, street-artist weasels (Regency or otherwise), rainbow-harlequin-lavafishie chemists, catgirl librarians, leather-backed dungbeetle stockbrokers, people whose face is half eyes, people whose skin is blue, silver-horned checkerboard-patterned satyr-legged gecko-eyed androgynous marine biologists, and Goddess help me, DRAGONSES, PRECIOUSSS, then post this in your journal, in an entry or userinfo or both:

Aspire To Dragonflight.

Thank you! I'd actually quite forgotten to drop you a line or something to let you know that I friended you, but you used, I believe, to post on the Tavern (or at least I know we've interacted somewhere before), and we have a number of mutual friends and I'd noticed you commenting on their journals and you always seemed insightful and thoughtful, so I figured I'd add you... that was about six months ago, and I only just got around to doing it. :3

For some reason your (probably rather ancient now) "morals of an alley cat" entry sticks in my mind, since I have similar attitudes, and the slight inherent suggestion of connection between cats and dragons peaked my curiosity - I'm a feline with a draconic "brother"/guide/companion/animus (neither of us are still sure quite what to call him), and I've had a strong pull to and fascination with dragons since I was a young'in; the two seem to naturally go together in my mind, somehow, but I'm still not sure what it means, if anything.

Also, if you didn't already know and you were a Taverner, I'm the Sprite formerly known as Riesz Fenrir, former admin of that board. :3 Thanks again for the welcome!

Arriving at this much later, via heron61's profile, I beam respect-positive-thoughts your way. This is a very excellent piece.

Thank you muchly! I've watched your comments in Kin's journal and found you interesting over the years. It's flattering to hear that, many, many years after I wrote this, it still has the power to inspire. Kudos.
